Initiated in July 2021 by the European Space Agency (ESA), the Scientific Animation Team (SAT) is providing advice about the contribution of satellite EO to better understand terrain motion and natural hazards such as earthquakes, subsidence, volcanoes and landslides as well as hydro-meteorological hazards (e.g. flooding, glaciers and ice-sheet related hazards). It is liaising with both science users and operationally mandated organizations on a global basis.
In the spirit of the International Forum on Satellite EO and Geohazards, the CEOS WG Disaster and other relevant international collaborations, the SAT is helping ESA gather requirements and priorities concerning EO in the different phases of the Disaster Risk Management cycle. To reduce the gap between users and space technologies, the SAT is looking at EO techniques and on-line collaboration environments to access and process satellite imagery, share EO products and support capacity building activities.
The SAT is composed of researchers and engineers of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique / Ecole et Observatoire des Sciences de la Terre (CNRS/EOST, Strasbourg, France) and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki / School of Geology (AUTh, Thessaloniki, Greece).
